Inter beat Genoa 2-1 and reached the Coppa Italia’s quarter finals. Seventh win in a row for Nerazzurri who are facing Napoli next week. Instead of revisiting a game reduced to little more than a training session by the two coaches’ rotation choices, I have decided to make a gift to all Inter die-hard fans who read this blog: an interview I made with David Endt.

Claudio 9
Inter on cloud nine. Now we know why Claudio Ranieri was appointed by Moratti last September. After three consecutive derby defeats the Nerazzurri needed someone who could halt the losing streak and restore some local pride. And who’s better than Ranieri? Between Turin and Rome the former Chelsea manager won seven and drew one out of eight derbies.
Back on track
Five goals to mark Inter’s fifth win in a row and after twenty minutes Nerazzurri were already focusing on the next game. And there is no need to match the eventual sixth success in the upcoming derby with a similar tennis scoreline: against AC Milan a one-nil win would be more than enough for an Inter side that couldn’t choose a better way to begin the new year.
A present 4 all
“It’s what we wanted for Christmas,” said Claudio Ranieri after Inter’s fourth win in a row. In the end it was 4-1 but it could have been 8-1 or 3-3. It could have gone either way. Dominating, hitting four times the woodwork in ten minutes and scoring twice still wasn’t enough for Inter to kill the game and only two colossal mistakes by Corvia denied Lecce a possible equaliser.
Role reversal
The Serie A’s table certainly looks much better now for Inter, after their third win in a row, the fifth in the last six games. But that’s all I can say today.
In this Inter blog we are a close family. This is how I see it. I always read with interest the comments and opinions of Aiyaz, Sam, Sia, Bellal, Nathan, Pietro… All very competent and well informed.
Climbing back
A perfect weighed pass from Ricky Alvarez, met by a perfect header from Yuto Nagatomo gave Inter the most deserved win of the season. Nerazzurri defeated Genoa only by one goal margin but Inter display was the most convincing and solid so far.
Signs of life
Inter defeated Fiorentina 2-0 in a sort of derby between the two most disappointing teams of the 2011-12 Serie A season. For the first time Nerazzurri won without conceding nearly anything to their opponents and showed some progress in different areas. Especially in midfield.
Red (card) alert
Thank God, Giampaolo Pazzini missed a possible equaliser from the penalty spot. Sometimes draws or even wins can do more harm than a healthy defeat. Because a streak of poor Inter performances this month have been hidden behind ‘results’ and a reality check was needed; Pazzini’s error provided it.
The new Trezeguet?
“Football is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish, about going out and beating the lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom”.
Surely Inter Milan coach Claudio Ranieri never read nor heard anything of the great Danny Blanchflower, otherwise he’d have picked different words to comment Nerazzurri’s last gasp win at Siena: “I’m very glad because my players fought bravely and in the end they got three points, and that was all that mattered”.
That-was-all-that-mattered. Sure?
With Alvarez on top
First in something at last. Lille’s win in Moscow and Inter’s draw at Trabzonspor made sure Nerazzurri will finish top of Group B, which means not facing the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the knockout stage. Finishing ahead of sides like Trabzonspor, Cska and Lille is not an epic achievement for a team like Inter. This should be the norm, and should be seen as routine.
